Associate Professor of Law, Northumbria University

Russell Hewitson is an Associate Professor at Northumbria Law School. After practising as a property law solicitor with a leading north east commercial law firm for a number of years he joined Northumbria University in 1992. He has also taught Equity & Trusts at Durham University. Russell is chair of the Law Society’s Conveyancing and Land Law Committee and is a member of the Joint Tribunal Panel of the Bar Council and the Law Society. He has also represented the Law Society as a Council Member on the NHBC Council. Amongst his publications he is General Editor of “Precedents for the Conveyancer”, “Practical Lease Precedents” and “Practical Conveyancing Precedents”, all published by Sweet & Maxwell. He is also a consultant editor of the Law Society’s Conveyancing Handbook. Outside the University Russell is a Magistrate and the Undersheriff for the City and Bailiwick of Newcastle upon Tyne. His current research interests include conveyancing, land registration and landlord and tenant law
