Prof. Tim Swanson
Timothy Swanson holds the André Hoffmann Chair of Environmental Economics at the University of Geneva. He has graduate degrees in law and economics, completing his PhD at the London School of Economics under the supervision of Nick Stern. Previously, he was the holder of the Chair of Law and Economics at University College London, a lecturer at Cambridge University and the Research Director for the UK’s National Centre on Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE). Recently, he has led research teams on issues dealing with: environmental governance in China (for the China Council and the ADB), biodiversity management domestically and globally (for various developing countries as well as the European Union’s BioEcon programme), EU water management, as well as intellectual property rights and biotechnology regulation (EU and European Science Foundation). He has advised many international agencies (OECD, UNEP, World Bank) on issues dealing with burden sharing and institution-building under international environmental agreements such as the Montreal Protocol and the Convention on Biological Diversity. His publications appear in journals which focus on economics, international affairs and development, environmental studies, as well as law and economics.

Dr. Ben Groom
Dr. Groom is currently a Lecturer in Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies. He did doctorate in economics at the Department of Economics, University College London. He has worked extensively in Africa with the Overseas Development institute and in China with Beijing University, as well as in transition economies of Eastern Europe. His research interests are in applied institutional and micro-economics of environment and development, and micro-econometrics. He has published applied work on forestry and water pricing policy in China, urban and agricultural water pricing in Southern Africa and Cyprus, as well as broader theoretical think pieces on social discounting for long-term CBA and North-South issues concerning international environmental agreements.

Dr. Andreas Kontoleon
Dr. Kontoleon is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Environmental Economics and Policy at the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge. His areas of expertise are micro-econometrics and welfare economics. He has worked on a variety of research projects on the economics of biodiversity conservation, the management of wetland resources and the economics of genetically modified foods. Recently he has been undertaking research in Africa evaluating environmental and health policies.

Dr. Unai Pascual
Dr. Unai Pascual is a lecturer in economics at the Department of Land
Economy at the University of Cambridge. He has held prior research
positions at the University of Manchester and the University of York (UK)
where he obtained the prize for the best PhD dissertation in environmental
economics. He currently serves on the Scientific Committee of the
agroBIODIVERSITY programme of DIVERSITAS. He has worked in research
projects investigating the links between economic development and
environmental problems such as deforestation, agrobiodiversity loss and
soil degradation in tropical regions of developing countries, with a
special focus on Latin America.
