A Macro Environmental Strategy for China

Project time-line:

March–Dec 2008

Project Objectives:

The People′s Republic of China is in the process of adopting a 50 year plan of targets for balancing growth with environmental protection, using the inputs of over 60 academicians in China. This project will provide inputs from an international team of experts to the Chinese team, enabling the use of international experiences in this important area. The objectives are to generate a series of workshops on international experiences in three crucial sectors (air, water, ecosystems), looking at the balancing of growth and the environment in developed countries. These workshops will feed into revisions of Chinas Long Term Macro Environmental Strategy, providing a new draft to go before the People’s Congress next year. A monograph will issue in October 2008 showing how international experiences may be useful for informing the Chinese decision making process.
