| PhD Title | The Impact of Deregulation and Reform of the Electricity Sector on Regional Economic Development in India. |
| Project information | The Indian electricity sector has been going through considerable structural change and upheaval. It is moving towards a form of functioning which can serve to sustain India through the stage of takeoff, by encouraging and supporting the growth of industry and investment. Whilst this pace of change is exciting to observe at the national level, the fact that electricity policy is decentralised, leading to the adoption of different models and paces of reform in different states, could mean that the manner in which this change pans out spatially will be radically different from the overall macroeconomic picture. Given sufficient interstate variations in income and demographics, there is scope for exploring the outcomes of the decentralised administration of electricity reforms at a spatial level. My research examines these outcomes for industry and business investment through a combination of econometric modelling using secondary datasets, and qualitative field research using location questionnaires. |
