A series of studies have been undertaken to evaluate the Inner City Task Forces on behalf of the DTI. The Task Forces represent fresh, innovative approaches to the regeneration of urban areas, tightly targeting assistance to particular areas and community groups. The Task Force concept has worked well, sometimes exceeding expectations.
The success has been due not only to the approach of a locally based and tightly targeted task force with financial assistance to disburse as appropriate group but also to the careful consideration given to the needs and opportunities and the actions required and the close involvement of the community, together with successful partnerships with private and public organisations. Attention to issues such as co-ordination, partnership, innovative approaches and tight targets have assisted in ensuring that progress has been made in assisting regeneration in traditionally difficult areas.
