About the Department of Land Economy

The Department of Land Economy is a leading international centre, providing a full programme of taught courses within an intensive, research-oriented environment. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework assessment, 50% of the Department's research work was described as "World Leading" and a further 38% as "Internationally Excellent".

Undergraduate Study

A full, three year honours degree programme (known as the Tripos) leads to the award of a Cambridge first degree (the BA). The main disciplines are law and economics, but with options in aspects of the environment, business finance and resource management. There are approximately 40 first year students each year. The degree leads to many career opportunities.

Postgraduate Study

There are a number of postgraduate courses offered by the Department of Land Economy, including MPhil taught and research programmes in Environmental Policy, in Real Estate Finance, in Planning Growth and Regeneration and in Land Economy Research. The Department also offers a full PhD programme. The department is also offering a new Masters in Real Estate (MSt) 2 year, part-time course from 2016.

While all media University ranking tables should be treated with some caution, we are pleased to report that, yet again, Cambridge's Land Economy degree tops the Guardian University League Table for their "Building and Town & Country Planning" subject area, well ahead of Queen's Belfast and UCL.
