Rockwell is proud to confirm that our Head of Planning, Jonathan Manns, has been made a Chartered Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Jonathan’s election at the age of just 34, is believed to make him the organisation’s youngest ever fellow and comes less than a year after he received the RICS Young Surveyor of the Year award in 2017.

The Royal Town Planning Institute is the UK's leading planning body and traces its history back to the early 1900s. Their focus covers several key areas including raising the profile of the profession and generating awareness of the vital contribution planners make to building sustainable communities and stimulating economic wealth. The RTPI also works in partnership with employers to promote the development of planning professionals.

Since its inception, the RTPI has been central to encouraging conversations around spatial, sustainable and inclusive planning and is currently the largest planning institute in Europe with over 23,000 members. As a Chartered Fellow, Jonathan will be joining an elite group of fewer than 100 Fellows, whose average age is over 55.

Speaking about his selection, Jonathan stated:

“It’s very flattering to be acknowledged as amongst those who have made a major personal contribution to the planning profession. I’m a passionate believer in the transformative power of property in positively shaping people and places. My hope is that this will help further highlight, particularly to a younger generation, the opportunities that this career offers to those seeking to make a positive impact on the world in which we live. It’s vital that we confront our shared challenges with fresh-thinking, creativity and collaboration and I look forward to supporting and continuing this over the coming years.”

Victoria Hills MRTPI, Chief Executive of the Royal Town Planning Institute, said:

“Fellowship is the highest professional membership grade available to a planner. It recognises exceptional candidates after an extensive process of peer review for the excellence and impact of their work. It also further validates that planning is a prestigious and valued profession for which our fellows are the best ambassadors.”
