Dr Emma Lees, University Lecturer in Environmental and Property Law

The Department’s Dr Emma Lees, a University Lecturer in Environmental and Property Law, was recently announced as the winner of the 2016 JEL Richard Macrory Prize for Best Article for her article “Allocation of Decision Making Power under the Habitats Directive”, which appeared in the Journal of Environmental Law.

The award, named after a leading figure in the study of UK environmental law, was established in 2014 to recognise the most “thought-provoking and innovative” article published in the Journal of Environmental Law. This year’s judging panel was impressed by the originality of Dr Lees’s article, and her use of rigorous doctrinal analysis. The panel further recognised the growing significance of Dr Lees’s research in light of the EU referendum.

Dr Lees teaches and supervises for the Department of Land Economy, and is also involved with the Cambridge Centre for Property Law (CCPL) and the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG).
