Join us at Pembroke College on Tuesday 8 July 2025 as we hear from Professor Alain Bertaud, former Principal Urban Planner at the World Bank, author of Order Without Design: How Markets Shape Cities, and Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. We will explore his life, career and how he turned theory into practice across the world in a journey that has taken him from post-Soviet Russia to China and well beyond in an effort to help nations plan cities.

The talk will start at 5pm and be followed by a drinks reception where participants will have the chance to meet Alain and talk with other guests.

The event is free to attend (tickets are available via Eventbrite). It is organised in collaboration with the YIMBY Initiative and hosted by Professor Thies Lindenthal, Grosvenor Professor of Real Estate Finance at the Department of Land Economy and Co-Director of CRERC.
