When you apply, you will apply to a specific college. This means that it is your college, rather than the Department, that handles your application, including inviting you to interview. If you are interested in specific information on application requirements, interview procedures, or admissions questions, check out the website for the college you’re interested in, or just give them a call.

You will apply using the online UCAS application form. The UCAS Code for Land Economy is KL41BA/LE

    Which College is Best for Land Economy?

    Deciding which college to apply to is a personal decision. If you’re looking for the “best” college for Land Economy, don’t worry; there isn’t one!

    All Land Economy students attend the same lectures and take the same exams, meaning that your college choice won’t have a big impact on your academic life.

    Instead, consider factors like:

    • Size
    • Location
    • Type of Accommodation
    • Facilities Available
    • Type of Community- some colleges are specifically for mature students, graduate students, or female students
    • Subjects Available- all colleges offer Land Economy except Churchill, Corpus Christi, Emmanuel, King's and Peterhouse

  • Your Application

    Your application will be composed of many parts, including:

    Each element of your application helps us to form a more complete picture of you. Admissions tutors will consider your application as a whole, so you should not see any one piece as the "most important".

    Your Personal Statement

    We understand the Land Economy is a unique subject, and that you will be applying to other subjects in related areas with your UCAS personal statement. Don’t worry; we won’t fault you for discussing interests in related fields.

    The 'My Cambridge Application' (MyCApp)

    The MyCApp, which you will be asked to fill out about a week after you submit your UCAS application, will give you the chance to submit some Cambridge-specific information. Although the “optional additional personal statement” in the MyCApp is just that- optional- you may find it especially useful for Land Economy. You should consider the MyCApp your chance to tell us anything that you weren’t able to say in your UCAS application.

    Interviews and Assessments

    The interview is designed to act as a mini-supervision, giving you the chance to test out the Cambridge teaching style, and giving us the chance to get to know you off the page. The exact format of your interview will depend on your college, but it’s likely that you will have the chance to talk in more detail about the ideas you raised in your personal statement or SAQ.

What we look for

Qualifications

In general, Land Economy doesn’t require you to have studied any specific subjects in your final two years of school. The undergraduate degree is designed to give you a thorough grounding in the skills that you need to succeed in the degree.

Many of our students have backgrounds in both the arts and the sciences. Although you may find that Economics, Maths, or Geography would be useful preparation, you won’t find yourself at a disadvantage if you choose other subjects. All we ask is that you can demonstrate critical thinking skills, the ability to learn, and a determination to succeed.

Although your offer will depend on your college, the minimum A Level offer that we see for students applying to Land Economy is A*AA, and 41-42 points with 776 at Higher Level for IB. Check the University website for information on the equivalent requirements for other qualifications.

The Perfect Land Economy Student

There is no single model of the perfect Land Economy student. Our students have a range of diverse interests, and no two are alike.

When the admissions tutor looks over your application, they will be looking for intellectual curiosity, independent motivation, and critical thinking. One way to show your curiosity and motivation is by exploring your interests outside school:

  • Read, including exploring our suggested reading list
  • Follow the news
  • Attend court
  • Seek work experience or a shadowing scheme
