Short Bio

Dr. Hongwei Xu Holds a PhD in Economics. Currently he is an Associate Professor at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in China and an academic researcher at the University of Cambridge. His research interests cover public economics, regional economics, and policy evaluations. The research methods he adopts range from quantitative quasi-experimental tests to qualitative fieldwork, from traditional GIS spatial analysis to cutting-edge machine learning models. He has successfully applied his experitise on challenging urban and regional development issues. He believes that social sciences should not only describe social issues objectively but also shed light on the underlying mechanisms.
